BEST administers placement exams in mathematics and foreign language to thousands of incoming freshmen and other undergraduates each year. We also administer the Graduate School Foreign Language Exam for French, German, and Spanish to graduate students who need to show proficiency in those languages for degree requirements.
In addition, BEST serves as a test administration site for a number of national exams, providing convenient local access to the SAT, GRE, PRAXIS, LSAT, and other widely-used admissions and certification exams.
As of September 1, 2013, the Indiana Department of Education requires the Indiana Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) – Reading, Math, and Writing Subtests for admission to teacher education programs in Indiana. The CASA replaces the PRAXIS I, which is no longer being accepted for admission to teacher education programs in Indiana. PRAXIS II subject area assessments will continue to be accepted for teacher licensure until new subject area assessments are introduced by the new testing vendor. The Media School curriculum incorporates a Media Placement Exam for some of its writing courses, including MSCH-C 225: Reporting, Writing and Editing – a required course for the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree.
