Registration

Due to the impact of Covid-19 on office staffing and services, in-person registration is not being offered for Fall 2020 test dates. If you are interested in registering for an exam, please send an email to best@indiana.edu to request registration information and it will be sent to you.

All MFYLEs are administered by appointment in Eigenmann Hall, Room 324 West. Advance registration is required. You must schedule your appointment no later than 48 hours in advance of your desired test date and time. Administration time for the exam is one hour.

Fees

The non-refundable test fee for group testing is $21.20 per exam. Individual testing appointments are also available for students who cannot test at one of the scheduled group testing sessions. The non-refundable fee for taking the MFYLE individually by appointment is $53.00 per exam.

Payment is made at the time of registration by billing to the examinee’s bursar account if currently enrolled.

Taking the Exam

Examinees should bring current photograph identification (i.e. driver’s license, passport, or IU student identification card), their 10-digit university identification number, and log in credentials for the IU computing system (if taking the German, Italian, and Spanish exams). Examinees taking the French exam should also bring two #2 pencils.

All MFYLEs can only be taken one time, so it is important that you take the test seriously and do your best on it. If you find that you are not ready to take the exam, and if you do not have any testing deadlines to meet for the Jacobs School of Music, you may always cancel your appointment with no penalty.

Sample tests are not available.

Additional Information

MFYLE scores are available only from the graduate secretary in the academic office of the language departments. IUB Evaluation Services and Testing (BEST) does not release test scores to examinees. Please note: Because of federal disclosure laws, exam scores cannot be given over the phone.
